BROWN, leader of the Chapel Hill com mittee for Open Business, was yesterday charged by Colonial Drug Store owner with assault on his 13-year.old son by dint of allegedly brushing his son on the head with the sign he was carrying while picketing the drugstore. The pickets had moved closer to the inner por tion of the sidewalk for their marching, purportedly because some building materials were being unloaded in their custom ary marching lane on the outer edges. Trial has been set in Cha pel Hill Recorder’s Court for next Tuesday. ' CHAP El, HILL OFFICIALS concerned with a peaceful solu tion to the desegration contro versy were yet hopeful yester day — before the above-noted Colonial Drug Co. Incident — that' the situation would be worked out satisfactorily. The prospects dimmed considerably with the new turn of events. A PHENOMENON IN CANINE affection is the shining examp le of man’s best friend that waits for the postman every morning in front of Yates Mo tor Co. in Chapel Hill. The light buff-colored collie is apparently owned by nearby residents, but comes to sit in the doorway of the business firm each day to wait for the mailman, jumps up gleefully on his arrival, waits while • he goes indoors to deliv er, then follows him for most of the remainder of his rounds. FOUR CARRBORO LADS WILL receive the coveted Eagle Scout badge in a special court of hon or to be staged by Boy Scout Troop 45 tonight at the meeting of its sponsoring organization, the Carrboro Lions Club. The top rank will be bestowed by Orange District Commissioner Bill Bibb on Eddie Durham, senior patrol leader; Eddie Bone, son of Assistant Scout master and Mrs. Dick Bone; Danny Best; and Allen Senter — who actually received his a ward two weeks ago but will participate in the ceremony a gain. It’s very unusual for four Scouts in one troop to receive this award at the same time. SERVICE STATION OPERAT or Qbie Davis, who as a Chapel Hill alderman for 20 years had a hand in collecting and refund ing many a municipal fee, won a refund for himself from the Town Board on Monday night. Mr. Davis noted he’d been auto matically paying for an annual ice cream sales privilege license but. hadn't sold the stuff for the past three years. Could he, he wondered, have a $2.50 refund for the current year. ..His re quest , was granted, as having been paid in error.
